Sony A99 Release Delayed by Sony

There have been rumors floating about Sony is delaying the launch of the Sony A99. This comes as a bad news to many who have been waiting to get their hands on this beauty. Of all the news that is doing the rounds, the most believable reason for this delay seems to be the flood in Thailand. Sony had plans to launch the Sony A99 sometime in September this year, but it seems like that would not be possible. For now, Sony is taking time & evaluating the customer responses for the Sony A77 & it seems that A77’s production delay is not going to allow Sony to timely launch their Sony A99, as originally planned, this spring.

The latest buzz is that instead of a spring launch, Sony will go in for launching their A99 @ the Photokina show (Cologne) sometime in September this year. If that wasn’t news bad enough, Sony FF roadmaps have been pushed forward, which means that the 2nd FF camera (the one with the integrated vertical grip) won’t be hitting the markets anytime before early 2013!

Even though Sony seems to have a valid reason to delay the launch of the Sony A99, I understand that countless others like me must be disheartened right now at this news! Honestly, on the other hand, I feel that maybe this has been a very thought out and wise decision on their part, because Sony cannot (at this point) afford repeating the early bug experiences that came with the Sony A77 so it is better that they delay the launch of the Sony A99 and make sure they deliver to us a camera that appeals to the pro market.

I also feel that Sony must at this stage decide whether or not it wants to be one of the serious contenders at the FF market. If yes, then Sony must chalk out a product strategy that’s detailed, clear as well as reliable. There’s no doubt what so ever that Sony’s got excellent technical knowledge and can challenge Canon & Nikon any day!
